Comic drama by Adam Beeson, adapted from a short story by the 19th-century Brazilian writer Machado de Assis. Anxious to
avoid all the mistakes in his life, a man appeals to Heaven to allow him to be born again with 'experience'. But in his
second life this precious knowledge proves no use at all.

Pedro dies and goes to heaven. He’s a lucky man, he discovers. Every 10,000th
soul gets the chance to live again. Oh no, he says. Then he fetches up back on earth, on the doorstep of a monastery,
soon discovering that what he learned in his previous life is not much use to him at all. For a start, no one believes
him when he talks about his soul flying through the air and meeting the prophet Job. Adam Beeson’s delicious
comedy is adapted from a 19th-century short story by Brazil’s greatest writer, the poet and novelist Machado de
Assis.
